Fuck, really? For my second post?

So, uh, this here cubbyhole on the internet is powered by WordPress and I think it’s hilarious that I’m already considering getting the fuck out of here. 404 Media is reporting that user data for Tumblr and WordPress is being sold to some company doing large language modeling. (via Slashdot) Which, yeah, we all need to make a living but goddamn does every minute of the day have to be spent parrying attacks when it comes to data?

The Fuck. Yeah, I might as well get this out of the way and get my internet flag that says this site has words because I have no fucking problem using the fun ones.

The ‘the fuck out of here’ in the first paragraph was typed via muscle-memory before my brain registered the words on the page. Which is to say that once I did actually notice what I’d written I thought, “Why the fuck do we say ‘the fuck’?” So I Ducked it because the other one is fucking terrible and I guess in my case it’s the second answer at the top of the page, “Used after verbs forming a part of a phrasal verb as an intensifier to imply aggressive emphasis.” Which sounds about right. I mean…the word ’emphasis’ suggests aggression of some sort anyway doesn’t it?

The Strong Language blog, another fucking WordPress site whose data will get sold because This Is The Way, wrote a deeper dive about the fuck and mentions “the fuck signifies the speaker’s attitude rather than actually modifying the action described” which also sounds about right as I have been told I ‘have an attitude.’ By morons, mostly.

Here we go again

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted on the internet and I’m not sure how this is going to play out in the end. I’m not even sure why I came back. The web has changed and I no longer look at it with the quiet awe that I did in the 90s…Enshittification, as they say.

Nobody reads blogs anymore so why come back to this particular type of flagellation? I just need an outlet, I miss writing words.

So here I am. An old man crawling back to a world that has eaten the best parts of itself. Is there anything fun on the internet anymore? I suppose I’m going to find out.

And what to write about? Well I guess I’m going to figure that out one post at a time.
